Frequently asked questions

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a unique type of conversation where you can say how you really feel, without worrying about the consequences e.g, hurting someone’s feelings, damaging a relationship or being judged. I offer you an empathic, non-judgemental space where you can unfold and be yourself, potentially facing aspects that have been denied, rejected or ignored. Not only can this bring relief, but it can also enable you to heal, grow and understand yourself better.

What will we do?

Every client is unique and I might work quite differently with one person from another, because the relationship is different every time. However, what doesn’t change is the fact that our 50 minute sessions will be spent talking about you: your worries, your life, your history, your relationships. You dictate where we go. I’m there as an aide to support these explorations, offering you insight and support along the way.

What benefits can be expected?

We will work together to better understand your distress and/or challenges so you can move towards a place where you have a “personal tool box”, made up of your own qualities, complete with a deeper understanding of yourself and your triggers, with the ability to make choices that truly serve you. Put simply, we will be working towards you being able to better support yourself. However long you choose to be in therapy, the insight gained from such growing self-awareness can help to enhance many areas of your life, from:

  • reducing anxiety

  • managing stress

  • improving mood

  • increasing self-esteem

  • improving relationships (including sexual)

  • easing suffering

  • building resilience to support you manage traumatic situations, emotional challenges or issues you may face regarding loss or grief

It’s worth noting that this can be a challenging process so it’s recommended that you approach therapy with the idea of being kind to yourself, while acknowledging your courage in seeking support.

How long will it take before I start feeling better?

There is no ‘one size fits all’ to therapy and each person is unique with their own set of problems, challenges and history. I offer open-ended therapy where I work in an in-depth way to explore your problems, believing that the time taken to explore your past is important for building a picture of who you are, giving us deeper insight into what challenges or problems you might be facing in the present. I believe that this is an important part of achieving long lasting change.
